ABOUT DISTRICT 5
What is District 5?
It is a combination of group representatives
of seven meetings from Wolfeboro to North Conway that meet monthly to
share information of importance. We are fortunate to have willing
members in this district that want to give back to the program by
practicing Tradition Seven, knowing that it is suggested that each group
have a group representative. District 5 meets in Tamworth since it is
central for the attendees. There is an agenda that is followed for each
meeting to include all timely happenings and events.
One of the benefits of meeting is to unify
the groups within the district. With discussion and awareness a bonding
forms between attendees. It is an opportunity to share on problems or
solutions so all can benefit from the information.
The district also has officers- district
representative (DR), alternate DR, secretary and treasurer. The DR
chairs the meetings. Willing members stand for the positions and the
group representatives (GR) vote for their choice. The terms are for
three years, one day at a time. It is great place to learn that
participation is the key to harmony. Everyone has a voice and is
encouraged to say what they think. After a thorough discussion of a
topic then a vote is taken.
Social Events are planned to just have fun.
This is really important since some Al-Anons have a hard time giving
themselves permission to have a good time. There have been dances,
skating parities and eating out. It gives members an opportunity to see
others in a different environment than the meeting room.
An outreach project has been going on where
our district helps other meetings with information and support. We are
constantly working on public outreach projects to inform the public of
Al-Anon and what it is about. One of the fund raisers that we have done
is to make calendars containing Al-Anon conference approved items. By
participating in these projects, one can get to know other members
better and have lots of laughs while getting the job done.
